Always a pleasure to dine here, great food in a great setting.
Particularly unwelcoming. Boards outside indicated serving lunch until 3pm. We walked in just about 2pm at the end of a 7-mile walk to be told that the 3pm bit only applied to prior reservations. No apparent interest in feeding us (despite tables being available), so we went to the White Horse at Empingham instead - which was superb.
Pleasant atmosphere. Busy, but not noisy. Good lunch: sandwiches and (eventually) mulled wine.
Great food, huge portions, light and airy in the main dining room but warm and snug in the bar. Staff were attentive and friendly. Excellent selection of local beers.
Superb hostelry know for its food. Can get busy at weekends. Small (good) menu prepared well. Served by competent staff. Always book.
